Carole Collet is a researcher, designer and curator whose main interest lies in exploring biological principles and living technology through design to create a more resilient future. After pioneering and directing the MA Textile Futures course at Central Saint Martins College for 10 years, Carole is now a full time Reader and Deputy Director of the Textile Futures Research Centre at Central Saint Martins.
Carole is currently engaged on several research projects including Biolace, a speculative design project that explores the potential impact of synthetic biology on future fabrication; Curating ‘Alive, Designing with Living Technology’ an exhibition due to open in 2013 at the EDF Foundation in Paris; Producing a collection of tableware that embeds sustainable principles related to food design and energy for The Resilients, a European Culture funded Programme. She is also exploring the potential of piezoelectric and photovoltaic fibres for future design applications. She has been contributing worldwide on the subject of future textiles, sustainable design practices, climate change and the role of science in design.
